It’s also home to one of our most energetic and technically brilliant teams at Simple Machines. From this base, our Christchurch crew partners with global clients across Australia, the UK, and increasingly, the US West Coast.
We’re proud to share that this studio, a converted print house tucked down a laneway in central Christchurch, has just been recognised with a 2024 Canterbury Architecture Award for Interior Architecture, presented by Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects.
Designed by the exceptional team at Three Sixty Architecture, the space is more than just an office. It’s a deeply intentional environment, reflecting our commitment to high-performance teams, great design, and a culture that values both focus and connection.
Think black steel, polished concrete, dark walnut, and a jungle’s worth of plants — it’s equal parts industrial edge and lived-in comfort. At the heart of it all, a central steel spine slices through the space, giving structure to the organised chaos: quiet zones for deep focus on one side, and a buzzing social core on the other. That’s where you’ll find our canteen — part lunchroom, part war room, part pub quiz arena.
The project was led by Design Director Tom Norman and Creative Director Dean Cowell, with construction brought to life by the meticulous team at TA Construction. We’re enormously grateful to all the partners who made this possible.
The award is a great nod, but more importantly, this space does exactly what we hoped: it gives our team room to think, build, collaborate, and grow.
